Brandi DAmore online journalist and beauty expert says....
I'm in the middle of consumer testing a bunch of premium lipstick
lines, but I'm liking this one the best. Being the makeup junkies
that we are, I'm sure you remember the lipsticks and glosses (that
came in large bubble-like tubs) from Poppy?
These were created by Poppy King, who went
on to become a major executive at Prescriptives.
Anyway, her love of lipstick pushed her to create
her new line of lipsticks under the brand, Lipstick Queen.
Actually, I think the word "love" doesn't
really encompass her feelings on lipstick. This new line seems to
have been painstakingly created to address the lipstick needs of the
barely-there to the full-ons. I think it would be perfect for Yellow
Box Beauty.
The brand is broken into two lines: Saints
(sheers) and Sinners (mattes).
The sheers are unique in that though sheer, you still get a color
pay-off without sacrificing the moisture and without a super-shine.
The mattes are unique in that though you get full color saturation,
you don't have the sense of dryness at all.
The colors are really beautiful. Clear, true colors of rose, rust,
wine, red (a WEARABLE red-sheer or matte), coral, pink, natural. One
color representative as the archetype of that color exists and the
colors are not cloying, or saccharine.
They are rich and beautiful, regardless of formulation. And, if for
example, you never thought yourself a "wine" lipstick girl,
the Saint proves you wrong, or the Berry...I can't decide.
On the other side, whereas normally I am not a matte kind of girl, I
find I can wear these comfortabley, without feeling like the color
(though very there) is announcing "here are my lips!"
You know what I mean?
In the consumer testing I'm doing, the colors have read really well
on everyone, regardless of tone. Additionally, the colors do not fade
quickly or turn by the end of the day, even the sheers (though they
do need reapplication). What I love most, though, is the packaging.
Instead of the standard box around the lipstick, there is a
"postcard" of high quality stock with one of two prints,
depending on if Sinner or Saint.

 |
Both postcards are Art Deco-esque combined with a vauge exoticism
depicting flowers, with the Lipstick Queen border at the top. The
Sinner is a delicious Chinese Red, black and gold theme; the Saint is
gold, black and cobalt blue.
When you slide the postcard out, the lipstick tube comes out. The
tubes are beautiful and immediately have other ladies ask what brand
they are when you remove them from your purse. The tubes are metal,
not plastic with a significant weight in one's hands. The Sinners
line is matte black with gold lettering; the Saint is brass-gold with
black lettering. Scream elegant and "where'd you get that?"
Right now they are only sold at Barney's. |
